About Alejandro

 

Alejandro Chabán, the young, internationally renowned actor and writer, was born in Maturín, Venezuela. Alejandro, whose name is synonymous with talent and versatility, has an extensive portfolio consisting of several starring roles in TV series and movies in Venezuela, abroad as well as in the U.S. Chabán’s acting career began in 1999 when he was cast for minor, yet leading roles in the TV shows, “Viva La Pepa” and “Al Calzón Quitao”. The following year, he landed the role of Daniel Viloria Ruiz Montero in the series, “Engañada.”

In 2003, Alejandro switched gears with his critically acclaimed leading role in the play “Las Alegres Cantáridas” as the rebellious son to a conservative father. The play ran in Latin America for more than six months and earned Alejandro a Golden Egret award for Best Actor. This caught the attention of Polish-Venezuelan director Franco de Peña, who cast Chabán as the lead in his film “Love in Concrete,” which won him many awards, at both national and international levels.

Alejandro has been able to achieve international recognition in what some would call an overnight success story. Then he joined Telemundo network in several of its top-rated programs including “Prisionera,” “La Ley del Silencio”, “Decisiones” and the current hit on Univision “El Rostro de Analía.”

Alejandro Chabán made the transition from the Hispanic market to Hollywood where he played an important role in the Hollywood film “The Notorious Bettie Page,” where he acted alongside popular beauty, Gretchen Moll.

His extraordinary work in this film opened doors in the English-speaking market,and has since appeared in the TV series “Monk” and the films “The Perfect Game” and “Reservations.” Alejandro also appeared in HBO’s “12 Miles of Bad Road,” written by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, in which he held his ground amongst acting greats Lily Tomlin and Leslie Jordan. Now Alejandro is playing a baseball player on the popular TV show “The Mentalist” along with Simon Baker.

In his productive, fast-rising career, Alejandro has won many important industry accolades which include the Cacique de Oro prize as Best Young Actor in 2003; the Mara de Oro Internacional award as Best New Actor in 2004; Best Actor at the Miami Latin Film Festival in 2004; the Mara de Oro award in 2006 (also for Best Actor), and the Gran Águila de Venezuela award as Best Actor in 2007.

In addition to his acting accomplishments, Chabán has a number of philanthropic attributes as well. He was chosen as the official “Hispanic male voice” — along with Oscar® nominee Adriana Barraza as the “Hispanic female voice” — of the Christopher Reeves Foundation. He is also an official ambassador of the Artistas por la Vida (Artists for Life) Foundation and was a presenter at the 2005 Billboard Awards.

Most recently, Alejandro Chabán launched his first book, De Gordo A Galán and the English version, From Fatty to Hottie which records the actor’s journey from childhood obesity to handsome leading man, a transformation he credits to the introduction of a healthy, active lifestyle. Alejandro’s regimen helped fellow actress, Adriana Barraza, shed the weight she was forced to gain for her role in Babel and he hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives most importantly fight childhood obesity.

Alejandro Chabán is undoubtedly an actor who has proved to be fully prepared to meet any challenge. De Gordo a Galán and from fatty to Hottie have become Best Sellers all over Latin America, Mexico and Puerto Rico and The US.

Now Alejandro Chabán decided to break the silence and use his fame and success in order to help people by sharing his experience, to let it all out and set an example for children, teens and adult by saying, “You can do this!” He has taken on a fight for the world’s youth, motivating people to take their life back and win the battle against obesity creating his movement called Alejandro’s Way.
